Being proud to precede our ancestors belonging to “PATHARA”, near Reethapuram, Colachal . son of MARIA ARULAPPAN settled at Kalkurichy- Muthalakurichy after wedding ‘AINESI’ as a partner D/o.Anthonimuthu and Visuvasam had four sons and four daughters to love named VARGHESE, MARIA DHAS, PACKIA DHAS, MARIA AMIRTHA DHAS, MARIANTHONI, MARIA RETHNAM, MARIA LYSAL, MANI. He spent his hardly earned money on traditional medicine and herbs.
Brief history:
In the quaint village of Muthalakurichy, a beacon of healing served during the 1940s, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Varuvel Asan, affectionately known as Varuvel Vaidyar, was not just a skilled traditional healer but a compassionate soul who dedicated his life to the well-being of others.
Varuvel Vaidyar, by profession a humble builder, discovered his calling in the ancient art of Varma Practice. His innate talent for this therapeutic practice drew individuals with traumatic injuries seeking solace and restoration. Despite his professional background, it was his personal interest in traditional medicine that transformed him into a revered healer.
Having imbibed the profound wisdom of Vaidya studies and texts from his guru in the village of Azhagiamandabam, Varuvel Vaidyar exemplified gratitude by gifting his land to his mentor for the pursuit of medicinal knowledge. This act laid the foundation for a legacy that would endure for generations.
Varuvel Vaidyar’s expertise extended beyond Varma therapy. He adeptly addressed a spectrum of ailments from asthmatic conditions, infectious diseases, female health issues, jaundice, skin disorders, pediatric concerns etc. His altruistic nature led him to provide treatments either for free or at a highly concessional price, a reflection of his compassionate ethos.
Assisting him in his noble venture was his devoted wife, ‘AINESI’. Together, they meticulously prepared traditional medicines at home, seamlessly blending ancient wisdom with care and dedication. Their altruism transcended their own economic constraints, exemplifying a commitment to the well-being of their fellow villagers.
Varuvel Vaidyar’s deep connection with nature was evident in his ability to identify medicinal plants, a skill passed down through generations. He conscientiously employed his knowledge, treating patients with a holistic approach that endeared him to the hearts of many.
In the twilight of his career, Varuvel Vaidyar took the initiative to document his extensive knowledge. Utilizing palm scripts for reference, he painstakingly transcribed his wealth of information into notebooks, leaving a tangible legacy for future generations.
Today, the torch of this venerable tradition is carried forward by a proud descendant. Gifted with the majority of Varuvel Vaidyar’s palm scripts and handwritten notebooks, this individual stands as an institutionally qualified Siddha physician. This seamless continuation of the Siddha Vaidya practice not only preserves a rich heritage but also ensures that the legacy of healing endures, bridging the gap between the past and the future.
