Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid enters the esophagus. Peptic ulcers are open sores that can form in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine. Symptoms include pain and burning in the upper abdomen and nausea. Various factors including Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection, using NSAIDs, use of a spirin and/or other antithrombotic drugs are important risk factors for Peptic ulcer disease. Spicy foods, skipping breakfast, taking food during late hours of night and stress increase the symptoms of peptic ulcer disease.

It is caused due to imbalance in the vatha dosham in the abdomen causing symptoms of pain, abdominal distension, chest burn, nausea, vomiting and indigestion.
