Ischemic Heart Disease

Home / Ischemic Heart Disease

Ischemic heart disease refers to heart weakening because of the reduced blood flow to your heart muscles. Usually this reduced blood flow is the result of coronary artery disease, a condition that occurs when the blood vessels to our heart narrow. As the heart weakens, it has to work harder to send blood to the rest of your body. This can increase the risk of blood clots, heart valve disease, heart failure and other problems. Usually the patients will have shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, fainting, chest pain especially after climbing stairs of after some heavy work, swelling in feet etc.

In siddha medicine, ischemic heart disease is compared with Ruthra rogam or thamaraga noi. It is caused due to abnormally increased vatham in the place of the heart which initiates pain, dyspnoea, fatigue, and occasionally pedal odema. Certain food items and habits increase the vatham which leads ruthra rogam.

Gentle social life with planned food and lifestyle will prevent the risk of ischemic heart diseases.
